Hey Everyone! How are you all doing?
I am still in Hamburg, taking some time off and enjoying the beautiful city. Hamburg is a city which has a lot to offer. From great musical plays, a few of the most important theatres of Germany, museums and an amazing nightlife till an exquisite selection of fashion boutiques up to great hotels and restaurants. We got invited to Heimat Küche+Bar, the restaurant located in Hamburg’s well known 25 Hours Hotel Hamburg Hafencity. The Hafencity in Hamburg is a new, upcoming area which has developed very well over the last couple of years. You can find the newly opened Elbphilharmonie here as well as Hamburg’s beautiful harbour and the famous Speicherstadt!
As I said before, we got invited to try out Heimat Küche+Bar and I don’t know about you, but I am a big food and restaurant lover so I got super excited when I got the message! Heimat Küche+Bar is located on the ground floor of the 25 Hours Hotel Hamburg Hafencity. The hotel has been designed as your home away from home. When entering the hotel you immediatly find yourself within its cosy atmosphere and comfortable lobby.
When looking at the right we saw Heimat Küche+Bar where we were welcomed by Nadine, she would serve us throughout our dinner experience. The restaurant is surrounded by large, open windows with a view over Hamburgs harbour. While enjoying the nice, relaxing background music we got presented the special menu of Heimat Küche+Bar. What we experienced from the start is that the staff is very well informed, they give you the ultimate experience and service. Nadine was able to explain everything on the menu and did explain very profound about the specialities we ordered. A cuisine mixed between German, Austrian and Swiss gives you the perfect combination of local but also international influences while enjoying the beautiful Hafencity view.
We started our dinner with some of the most delicious bread I have ever tasted. The Bauernbrot with Frischkäse comes from Gaus, one of Hamburg’s best bakeries located in the big mall at the Innenalster called Europa Passage. Together with a 2014 Wittmann Riesling you are in for a great time.
I started my dinner with Heimat’s Ceaser salad with chicken. Crispy lettuce and a refreshing yoghurt dressing will give you an explosion of flavours which is combined with just the right amount of parmesan and chicken. My partner started with a Steak Tartare, medium spiced on top of the delicious Bauern brot. The fresh, raw meat is a real experience. Together with caper and a combination of spices, unions and pickels it is a great taste experience! My partner said that this is the perfect start for anyone who loves meat!
We have always been into sharing main courses, it is a great way to try different things of the menu. I decided to have one of the specials, the Köningsberger Klopse with carper (German meatballs) which is a speciality coming from the former German city Königsberg. The meatballs are accompanied with a Bejarmel capper-sauce, patatoes and cabbage which go perfectly with the juicy meatballs. This meal is all about the perfect balance of the German kitchen and a complete flavour experience.
If you are looking for something unique, then make sure to try the Ox Cheek. The dark color ox’s meat melts in your mouth, which shows that there has been put a lot of time into the preperation of this dish to get the soft consistency. Combined with orange-, black carrots and parsnip you will have a perfect main course which is served with a tasty patato gratin.
After enjoying the wonderful main course, plenty of conversations and sips of the delicious Riesling wine it was time to pick a dessert. Ever since I have been young I have had an obsession with desserts. Nadine recommended the Gin Tonic Sorbet, which honestly was such a great option to complete our dinner experience. The refreshing taste of the Gin Tonic sorbet combined with the cucumber flavour is what you want after such a delicious dinner.
A place to relax, feel at home and enjoy
Heimat Küche+Bar knows how to treat their guests. Every second of our time there was great and felt like we were taken out of the busy city of Hamburg, to a place where we could relax. The menu features dishes which complement each other in the best way and together with the exquisite and very well informed service staff I can’t imagine going anywhere else when spending time in Hamburg and going out for a nice dinner!
The cosy atmosphere is perfect for a romantic dinner, a business meeting or a couple of rounds of cocktails with friends. We were very impressed with the 25 Hours Hotel Hamburg Hafencity and hope to be paying them a visit in the future. I have heard that the hotel has beautiful rooms and even has its own Habour Sauna!
